24 Caprices
Meta Sinfonietta presents

Niccolò Paganini’s 24 Caprices for Solo Violin stand at the very summit of the violin repertoire, where instrumental virtuosity is elevated to the absolute, and every technical device and shade of color is transformed into an artistic language. They form a true “encyclopedia” of the violin’s possibilities—an enduring benchmark that remains unequaled to this day.

Each Caprice is like a distinct portrait with its own character: burlesque and grotesque, tragedy and dance, brilliance and contemplation. Performed as a complete cycle, they unfold as a dramatically charged journey, where the constant metamorphosis of images holds the listener’s attention in unbroken suspense.

The name Paganini has resonated for two centuries, yet the man himself remains an enigma, concealed behind layers of myths and stereotypes. Legends multiply, while his true essence slips away. Only his music provides the genuine key to his persona, offering the listener a direct, unmediated encounter with Paganini himself.

Marking a turning point in the history of music, the 24 Caprices continue to serve as both the supreme trial for the violinist and the ultimate union of virtuosity with artistic expression. A cornerstone of every violinist’s repertoire, the opportunity to hear all twenty-four in a single evening is a rare event—a unique chance to grasp the complete vision conceived by the composer.

About the artist

Program Duration

The entire performance lasts approximately 95 minutes.

Of these, around 70 minutes are devoted to the music itself, while about 24 minutes are reserved for the specially prepared narrative commentary.

The concert is presented in two equal parts:

  • Part I — approx. 47–48 minutes
  • Part II — approx. 47–48 minutes

At the concert, all 24 of Paganini’s Caprices for solo violin will be performed.

The program is divided into two parts of 12 caprices each, with an intermission of standard length as customary at the hosting venue.

The musical performance is complemented by a unique element — an artistic commentary created especially for this project. This is not a collection of well-known facts, but an exclusive, carefully crafted narrative based on research and personal experience of working with the material. It reveals a vivid image of Paganini, allowing the audience to perceive his music more deeply, brightly, and personally. In this way, the concert acquires not only a musical, but also a distinctive educational dimension, transforming the encounter with the Caprices into a complete artistic event.

Both text and audio versions of the commentary are prepared in advance. The venue may choose the format — either a professionally recorded narrator’s voice or a live conferencier. In both cases, the material is fully ready and provided by the organizers.

Each part of the concert is divided into three sections, where the artistic commentary alternates with the performance of the caprices. The works are distributed among the sections according to their overall length, ensuring a natural and balanced flow of the program.
